With over 31 years of experience in the project industry—including more than 25 years in leadership roles—Dr. Gerrie van Heerden brings unmatched depth to complex project and program delivery, strategic planning, and operational optimisation across diverse industries. He began his career in the construction sector, where he developed a solid foundation in the practical realities of project execution. Known for steering large-scale initiatives to success, Gerrie is a results-driven professional who excels at aligning vision with execution. He has consistently led high-performing cross-functional teams to deliver within scope, on time, and under budget, while upholding the highest standards of quality and governance.

Throughout his career, Gerrie has developed and implemented robust project control systems, rigorous estimating frameworks, and effective risk management strategies. As a Senior Manager in Project and Programme Support and Estimating Manager at a leading mining house, he championed operational efficiency and stakeholder alignment, bringing transformative impact to both capital projects and organisational performance.

Equally committed to education, Dr. van Heerden lectures and moderates at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, where he shares his extensive industry knowledge through dynamic, applied learning experiences. His academic background includes a PhD in Management, with research focused on enhancing project performance and leadership through talent management—bridging the crucial gap between theoretical insight and practical execution.
